Well I had an idea for this months quiltie swap, but hadn't started on making it yet. On Sunday I went for a little walk before getting started on sewing and took a left turn, literally, to find myself at Colours. I did want to get a 360 degree protractor for drawing mandalas and I did find one, but I just had to wander around the store and found a few other interesting products. The Pentel Arts Fabric Fun Dye Sticks looked like a good thing to try even though it is a small package, more colours would be better. So on Monday after watching a couple of YouTube videos I gave them a try on some 2 in. wide strips of white cotton fabric. I used a rubber stamp, a rubber jar opener and a couple of embossing folders to do rubbings on the fabric with the dye sticks. So I was quite excited by my results and started sewing a slightly wonky log cabin block with pieces of this fabric. I machine pieced and quilted my 4 inch block. The backing is an orange cotton and I think it turned out pretty good. I actually made two blocks, one for me to keep and one to send to my swap partner. The fabric strip I actually used was a second one I made and I did use a couple of pieces from this strip for block 2.
