I have a plan in mind, but I'm not sure it will turn out the way my mind sees it. I will post more even if it doesn't work out the way I expect.

This is three patterns from a vintage knit sampler project knit with 10/3 cotton thread on Knitter's Pride 2.75mm needles.The stitch markers are ones I made.

This will be another part of the mystery project. I used Brew caps, sanded and hit them with a rubber mallet. I then placed them in a jar of bleach and vinegar to rust the bottle caps. Brew is a brand of natural soda that we enjoy as a treat on occasion.

The knitting is done! Now it's off to the blocking board. It should look neater once it has been blocked, the lace will look lacier.

Here is the lace all nicely blocked. Now the first scary part begins. This is where I find out if the image in my mind matches the reality.

I have now sandwiched the bottle caps between the lace and a piece of cotton. I did a running stitch around each cap to trap it in place. I wasn't sure how this would work out, but I like it.

All the stitching is done and the backing fabric is stitched in place. Now the really scary part comes next. I will have a lovely finished project or a big mess of lace and brew caps. I'll be back with the results later.

I've had this great book for awhile and was intrigued to try a project like Alice Fox's on page 25 of the book.

This is the original project. I started to prepare the bottle caps which I show in an earlier photo.

Then I received my very first issue 33 of Uppercase magazine. What an amazing magazine. I am enjoying reading through the articles.

I open the magazine and right inside the cover is this beautiful piece. I start thinking what if? What if I trap the bottle caps under lace instead of cotton fabric?

So here is the finished piece after the very scary process of spraying tea on the project and waiting for the tannin to react with the rusty caps. It was so exciting to see the colour bloom on the lace. I kept going back to check on it. I only wish I had taken photos during the process. I love how it turned out, and it looks even better in real.

I titled my project "Brew Caps And Old Lace" The lace isn't strictly speaking old, but is knit from a vintage pattern and does look old now. All the hours of stitching were worth every second.
